Heavenly Father, with all the Christmas plays going on in my area and hearing of them in other places I am reminded of my youth, as many of us participated in yearly church pageants where we dressed as an angel, a shepherd, a wiseman or maybe even Mary or Joseph. We memorized our parts from Matthew and Luke and can quote those Scriptures even today. It was exciting every Christmas to participate in the story of our Savior’s birth. Because of familiarity we can lose the wonder, the mystery, and the excitement of Christ coming to earth. Would You fill our hearts afresh with great joy as we reflect upon our Lord Jesus coming to earth to show His love to us and to teach us Your timeless truths. Our Saviour cared for the unlovable. He healed the sick, raised the dead, and drove out demons. He died for our sins and rose again on the third day. Yes, the story of the baby wrapped in swaddling clothes is familiar, but we never want to weary of the daily impact Christ’s coming to earth has on our lives and in our hearts. We love You and thank You for sending Jesus to us and in His name we ask this prayer. Amen.

Heavenly Father, we rejoice in the message conveyed to the frightened shepherds that Christmas night over 2000 years ago. The good news announced by the angel was not only for the shepherds but for “all people”, that a Saviour was born to us that would redeem us from our sins. Like the shepherds, may we hear this message, believe this message, and proclaim this gospel message to all people for all time to prepare them for all eternity. Lord that we don't just tell people about what is written in scriptures, but by the way we speak, act and think is much differently than those of the world. I thank You and I praise You and in Jesus name I ask. Amen. Heavenly Father, we are so thankful for the Goods News of salvation, as presented to all who read the Scriptures. In an age where deception, trickery, scheming, and outright lying are prevalent in the government, media, marketplace, workplace, family, and even in churches we are thankful for those, such as Luke, who very thoughtfully and in an investigative manner, compiled an account for those who lived during the time of Christ, but also for all generations that follow. We are among those whom Your servant, the mother of Christ, spoke of in her song of praise, “His mercy goes on from generation to generation, to all who fear Him.” Thank You for extending Your mercy to us in our generation. In the name of Jesus. Amen. Heavenly Father, there is so much to contemplate and ponder concerning the birth of Your Son, Jesus. Mary is a tremendous example of one who was unable to fully comprehend or understand Your plan, but trusted You to take care of those troubling matters that concerned her. Help us to follow in her steps and trust You to work out Your will and plan in our lives even in the mysterious workings of our daily circumstances. Your humble and obedient servant, Mary, fulfilled Your plan for her life and thereby we receive the Christ Child; the Savior, the Messiah, our Lord! For this we are thankful and we ask this in Jesus name. Amen. Heavenly Father, we praise You because there is no dreaded sin in our life that surpasses the all-sufficient grace You freely grant to all who believe. It is through no merit of our own for we are deserving of death and eternal punishment. But through the tremendous sacrificial death of Your Son, Jesus, we are freed from all our guilty stains of sin. No greater love can we know this side of heaven. In the precious name of Your Son, Jesus, we thank You. Amen. Heavenly Father, it is in bitterness, revenge and self-pity that we become useless to others and toxic to ourselves. But through expressions of forgiveness and love we are granted inner strength and power beyond ourselves to move forward, and it is there that we find healing and restoration for our wounded souls. May we not live in the past or turn to our own destructive vices but find deliverance and victory through the enduring work of Your Holy Spirit that brings comfort, conviction, and cleansing. We can do all things through Christ who gives us strength, but we need to come to the point in our lives that we call upon Him and trust Him and have that intimate relationship with Him. Thank You Jesus for loving us and willing to go through our storms with us. It is in Your name we pray. Amen. Heavenly Father as I read in Your Word about Rahab’s obedience in hanging the scarlet cord from the window of her home which brought safety and deliverance for her and all her household. It would seem that the scarlet cord is symbolic of the blood of the Passover lamb that was posted on the houses of the Israelites during their mighty deliverance from captivity in Egypt. And, on the personal level, when we receive Jesus as our Savior we post His sinless blood on the doors of our hearts so that we are freed from the captivity of Satan’s tyranny. We are protected from our deserved judgment for sins, because Your Son, Jesus, bore our sins for us. Thank You for making provision for us just as the spies made provision for Rahab. But even greater is that Your provision for salvation is not just for this life but for all eternity. We give You thanks in Jesus name. Amen. Heavenly Father, we’re so thankful that there is nothing in our past or future that can separate us from Your love or daily provision for our lives. You provide the necessary tools to overcome the difficulties we encounter from earliest childhood to present day. Though the enemy seeks to disrupt our lives, pollute our minds and sear our conscience we will not be defeated by evil. Instead we overcome evil with the steadfast goodness You instill in our hearts as we hold dearly to the light of Your Word. We say “no” to ungodliness and worldly passion as we eagerly wait for our great hope in the second coming of Your Son, Jesus, who will unite us with You, our Father, in heaven. Keep us faithful and ever hopeful. In Jesus name. Amen. Heavenly Father, knowing that Jesus is the Prince of Peace I pray for His peace to fall upon our land. We pray that many will turn to You today and accept that wonderful reconciliation You freely offer. That is the first step to all other types of peace. We pray for relational peace among our countries, families, and churches. We pray for inward, emotional peace, especially for our brothers and sisters affected by these wars. We pray for those suffering loss from recent brutal attacks in war torn countries. We look forward to that time spoken of when the whole world will be at rest and in peace. But until that hour we serve You faithfully as we seek to be peacemakers for our own spiritual well-being and for Your glorious kingdom. In the precious name of Jesus we pray. Amen. Heavenly Father, of all the descriptions ascribed to you the title of Father reveals Your nurturing, protective and loving care. Not just present during our young years, or our time on earth, but You are eternal, existing before time began and You will be our Father forever throughout eternity. Your role as our Father keeps us from sinking in the miry clay, for You uphold us with Your righteous right hand, keeping us from falling and being cast down. We praise You Lord. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen. |
