Heavenly Father, help us not to resent the storms of life or be fearful of their effects. Much like we prepare for a ravaging storm by anchoring valuables to a firm foundation, help us to anchor our souls in the firm foundation of Your Word that will help us to withstand the testings and trials of life that are certain to come our way. Even as the huge cable anchorages of the Golden Gate Bridge have stood the test of time, may we have an assurance of Your absolute reliability, not for the years of time alone, but for eternity. Thank You Jesus and in Your name we pray. Amen.

Heavenly Father, we know there is a deeper work within our soul which cannot be accomplished by mere physical exercise. Just as we maintain our bodies to submit to a rigorous routine of endurance, abstinence, and sacrifice, we must apply the same maintenance tools to bring our spirits into submission to Your will for our lives. We must train ourselves to be godly. Though physical training is of value in this life, godliness has value for all things, and holds promise not only for the present life but also the life to come. Help us to pursue this noble task in Jesus name we pray. Amen. Heavenly Father, as I commit myself to You this day, I ask that You help me to walk in Your light. As I travel to Bangor today, make me a glowing ember of Your truth, Your wisdom, and Your compassionate mercy. I want my light to shine for You so that all glory will be directed back to You, my source of light. If I find myself in the midst of a circle of those engaged in ungodly conversation help me not to blend in. But rather help me to be the light of Your glory in my conversation, full of grace seasoned with salt, so that I will know how to respond to each person. I ask that You would reveal to me any false motivation for carrying out good deeds. Remind me that it is for Your glory that I do these things. It is neither for the praise of others nor for personal advancement. Lord, help me to share Your light today that will direct one’s thoughts toward my Father in heaven. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen. Jesus, You are the Light of the world. And because You reside in our hearts we are a reflection of Your holy light. The world we live in is dark and growing even darker as Satan’s sinister and deceitful schemes are being played out. Help us not to look the other way when darkness is spreading lest the darkness overshadow us in time. Instead would You empower us, through the light of Your Holy Spirit, to shine in a wicked and decadent society. We come against the darkness by speaking against wickedness in all forms. And, Lord, help us to be consistent not only in what we speak but the manner in which we live. May the fruit of light be evident in all we do. In Your name, we pray. Amen. Heavenly Father, we count among our rich blessings the bounty of Your handiwork – whether it’s that which we can observe only at a distance or that which we can examine closely, touch with our hands, smell or taste. A visit to a zoo reminds us of the variety in Your creative handiwork. You are a benevolent Father, giving us so much to enjoy. Creation declares Your glory causing us to delight in Your creativity, in all its bountiful and varied displays. We give You thanks for it all. In Jesus name we ask. Amen. Heavenly Father, we acknowledge that endurance and persistence are attitudes derived from a faith filled-life with You. Our persistence is marked by the determination we have to finish the race though struggles weigh us down and doubts cloud our vision of the finish line. Thank You for marking the race out for us and for the great examples of those who cheer us on as we participate in this Christian race. They finished their race on earth, through their enduring faith made possible through Your amazing grace, though they experienced opposition from sinful people. We endure hardships and struggles as discipline from You, our loving Father, that we may share in Your holiness. Strengthen our feeble arms and weak knees as we throw off everything that drags us down or tempts us to give up. We persevere in the name of Jesus Christ for the heavenly finish line, Amen Heavenly Father, as parents we want to help build a Christ-centered home: with the teaching of Your Holy Word as our golden text for living. Help us to instill love for acquiring knowledge and imparting wisdom. May we be living examples of committed Christ-followers demonstrating those character qualities that bring glory and honor to You. Because You have given us so much You now require us to give much in return. May our homes be a place that stimulates creativity, that offers opportunity for the study of music, of books, of hobbies where ideas can be shared and questions safely discussed. May Christ’s presence permeate our conversation and synchronize our hearts to bring honor to You. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen Heavenly Father, we want our hearts to remain soft and pliable so that we do not lose our spiritual sensitivity to hear and obey Your voice. We remember those who once had soft, pliable hearts that have hardened over time. They no longer hear You or sense Your presence in their life. Their spiritual vision has darkened. Help us, Lord, once again on this day to taste and see that You are good. You are the Bread of Life that does not spoil. You satisfy our hunger and quench our thirst as we dip from Your spring of living water. The world only offers temporary substitutes that can entrap and draw us away from Your eternal pleasures. We want to remain vigilant in Your Word and heed Your ways so there is no buildup of sin that over time hardens our heart toward You. We want to be steadfast and stouthearted so that we will unswervingly hold to the hope we profess, for You who promised is faithful. In the name of Jesus we ask and thank. Amen. Heavenly Father, the love and care expressed to us through Jesus our Lord compels us to express similar love and care to others in need. All who walk in Your ways must go through many hardships, but the blow that comes from such hardships is cushioned and the duration of pain is lessened by those who lovingly reach out to us in tender loving care, as they help bear our burden. Their heartfelt prayers, loving words and kind expressions remind us that You have not forgotten us nor forsaken us. Your loving Spirit descends to us through human endeavors directed toward our need, lifting us from the neighboring pits of despair and discouragement. In Jesus’ name we press on toward the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen. Heavenly Father, we read of those in the Bible from generations long ago who lived upright and godly lives. They were discerning and wise, devoted in their duties such as Anna and Simeon who served in the temple. So many serve as examples of those who walked in Your ways from their youth and remained faithful through their golden years. Some of their choices brought about multiple blessings and other choices brought forth great sacrifice, persecution, or even death. We also read of those who were proud and foolish, thinking only of themselves, such as Samson, Ananias and Sapphira or Demetrius the Silversmith. They also serve as warnings to us. Since we will soon follow in the steps of our elderly friends help us to store up the wisdom, discipline, and overcoming spirit they convey as they deal with the inevitable physical pain, loss of loved ones, and dependency that are a big part of growing old. It’s in the name of Jesus that we pray. Amen. |
