Jesus, I’m so thankful for the hope You give us that is far more than just wishful thinking. It is based upon the unshakable foundation of the inspired Word of God. It is through the enduring Word that we find encouragement and needed strength to stand firm during the times of testing and when others scoff or try to revise Your instruction for our lives. Our hope is in the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth! Amen.

Heavenly Father, we thank You for Jesus who willingly laid down His life to become our “Ram in the thicket”. He became a sacrifice that we might receive forgiveness of sins; His death in exchange for our forgiveness, and thereby inheriting eternal life. We greatly rejoice in the fact that You did not spare Your own Son but delivered Him over for us all, that we might receive salvation, and that we might take up residence in the Kingdom of God. We thank You in Jesus’ name. Amen. Heavenly Father, this world would be quite bland and much would be lacking in our lives if we didn’t have good friends. Friends who spur us on, who love us when we need it most, who lend a hand even before we ask, who encourage us by their words and deeds, who believe in us when others doubt our worth. Friends are among the greatest blessings You give us to walk with on this journey of life and we thank you for them. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen. Heavenly Father, we are grateful that the story of Daniel is included in Scripture that we might learn from his sterling example. As Your devoted follower He formed the habit of praying to You three times a day in an environment where allegiance was not directed to the one true God but to others gods and to the king. He withstood the godless orders of the day and stayed true to You “as He had been doing previously”. May our faith and our habits of devotion to You not be deterred by man’s law but keep us trusting You even more when others trust You less. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen. Father God, You are the only source of eternal life to whom we can cling though we’re tempted to build our lives on that which does not last, much like one who “trusts in his house, but it does not stand; he holds fast to it, but it does not endure.” We’re reminded in Scripture that “The hope of the godless will perish, whose confidence is fragile, and whose trust is a spider’s web.” Help us to remember that which has only earth’s values can be compared to the fragility and time span of a spider’s web in light of eternity. With eternity’s values in view we will build our lives upon Christ who is our firm foundation now and forevermore. Thank You Jesus and in your name we pray. Amen. Jesus, thank You for Your indwelling Spirit that replaces my sinful nature with that of a spiritual nature. I no longer desire the temporary pleasures the world offers, but even as I walk in Your ways year after year, I’m keenly aware that sin is crouching at the door of my heart, always ready to make habitation if invited to come in. Alert my eyes to the strategic warfare of Satan. I want to be vigilant in guarding my heart against his cunning assault. I want to heed the many warnings You give us in Scripture as well as godly messengers who keep watch over my soul. With Your blood applied to the doorpost of my heart, I am purified by Your holiness, and want to stand firm to the end! Amen. Heavenly Father, You see us in our hour of need. You look beyond our supposed prestige, our accumulation of material goods, any earthly titles or accomplishments we’ve earned. You perceive our thoughts from afar and know the very intent of our hearts. The searchlight of Your Word reveals anything that separates us from You. Thank You that we can be reconciled to You and experience forgiveness of sins through the redeeming blood of Jesus. The riches of Your grace far exceeds the fleeting riches this world has to offer. You lead us in the way everlasting as we earnestly seek You. We desire to see Jesus more than anything this world offers. In His name we pray. Amen. Heavenly Father, like Spurgeon wrote in his sermon, we owe more to the fire, the hammer, and the file, than to anything else in Your workshop. These tools help to remove our impurities and build up the character qualities that best reflect Christ and all that He represents. We still have rough edges that need Your smoothing so we invite You to file away at that which seeks to hold onto the old nature so that our spiritual nature is aligned with that of John the Baptist’s who declared, “He must increase, I must decrease.” More of You, Jesus, less of me is my heart’s cry. Thank You Jesus and in Your name we pray. Amen. Heavenly Father, may we be found conscientious, trustworthy, and devoted in our relationship to you and to others. We pray you will help us to live conscientious lives. We want to learn, seek to understand and effectively communicate the teachings of Scripture so that we prove to be faithful stewards of all that is entrusted to us. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen. Heavenly Father, we solemnly consider the catastrophic impact that terrorists have permanently etched in our painful memories from events of 9/11/01. Though we witnessed mayhem and saw evil at its worst, mercifully, we also witnessed acts of goodness at their best. We are not without hope, for we know that You are a God of hope that fills believers with all joy and peace as they trust in You, so that they may overflow with hope by the power of Your Holy Spirit. Help us to spread the overflowing, enduring hope that does not diminish in the midst of evil, but instead it focuses our hearts on the holy city, the New Jerusalem. The New Jerusalem where Your presence is with Your people. Where You will wipe away every tear from our eyes and there will be no more death, sadness, crying, or pain, because all the old ways are gone, for You will make all things new. Come, Lord Jesus, come. Amen. |
